Technical SEO

To put it simply, technical SEO is all about being on the right side of Google’s ever-changing algorithms. You want to make sure your site is accessible and crawler-friendly, and that you don’t have any technical errors that might hurt your rankings.

Lloyds SEO is an experienced SEO agency with over 25 years’ combined experience in SEO, digital design & development, we are able to identify issues related to your website and its technical setup, giving you peace of mind from any future issues that may hurt your site’s performance in the search results.

Indexability & Crawlability

Technical issues with your site can hurt rankings, including issues with your content that may be causing more harm than good. Some examples of technical issues related to indexability and crawlability include:

  • Duplicate content
  • No index, broken pages (404s) and the inappropriate use of canonical tags
  • Server issues and speed, complicated code and excessive image sizes
  • Penalties
  • Poor mobile experience & general user experience.

When performing a technical SEO audit we use a number of tools to identify these common issues. We recommend using an experienced SEO agency when undertaking technical SEO changes to your site, with a developer who understands the latest SEO requirements to ensure no harm is done in the process.

Site Speed

In May 2020, Google announced the new algorithm update that will be focused on measuring how users experience the performance of web pages, this is set to be rolled out some time in 2021.

These new metrics will look at page experience to ensure both desktop and mobile are optimised in accordance with 3 new measurements.

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): measures loading performance. To provide a good user experience, LCP should occur within 2.5 seconds of when the page first starts loading.
  • First Input Delay (FID): measures interactivity. To provide a good user experience, pages should have a FID of less than 100 milliseconds.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): measures visual stability. To provide a good user experience, pages should maintain a CLS of less than 0.1.

These new metrics, in many cases, require fundamental changes to code structure and page design to ensure your website meets these new standards. We recommend working on fixing any speed issues prior to the new rollout. Lloyds SEO can help you with that.

Semantic SEO

Producing content around exact keywords and spamming them within the content is no longer a valid SEO strategy. Semantic SEO is about the relationship between words and topics.

When it comes to building out content on your website, it’s important that you explore the subject in detail. Consider what the user would expect to see. Structure the content in such a way that is meaningful and provides answers to the users search query. Furthermore, consider additional pages of content that relate to any given subject. This will help search engines better understand the context of your web pages.

Schema markup is a way to label content on your site with specific meaning using structured data. It can be included on any page of your website to provide more detailed information about the individual elements, helping to improve the speed and accuracy with which search engines understand your page.

It is similar in some respects to meta tags, but uses schema.org vocabularies in order to connect structured data from multiple websites into a single result.

There are different types of schema:

  • FAQ Schema
  • Organization Schema
  • Service Schema
  • Recipe Schema
  • Hotel Schema
  • Review Schema

These different forms of schema have different data requirements, but when used correctly can have a positive impact on rankings.

Lloyds SEO can help you setup the relevant schema for your web page and ensure that the code (JSON) is friendly to search engines.
